Week 2 Recap: Heat Check and Jersey Icons Stay Perfect, Primetime Gets First Win

Matt Taylor erupts for 29 points, Bryan Campbell delivers another dominant performance, and Primetime gets into the win column as the Fall 2026 season heats up.

The competition is heating up in the Citrus Men’s Basketball League!

Week 2 brought another exciting night of 35+ basketball to Hoop Heaven in Whippany, New Jersey, on Thursday, October 22. With three games on the schedule, teams were looking to build momentum, bounce back from opening-night losses, and establish themselves as early championship contenders.

When the final buzzer sounded, two teams remained undefeated, one celebrated its first victory, and the race for the top of the standings became a little more interesting.

Heat Check and Jersey Icons improved to 2–0, while Primetime bounced back from its opening-night loss to even its record at 1–1. TNR suffered its first defeat, and Court Kings and Clutch City are still searching for their first wins.

Here's how Week 2 unfolded.

Jersey Icons Survive Court Kings in a 68–66 Thriller

Final Score: Jersey Icons 68 | Court Kings 66

Jersey Icons entered Week 2 looking to build on their opening-night victory, but Court Kings had other plans.

In the closest game of the night, Jersey Icons escaped with a narrow 68–66 win behind an outstanding offensive performance from Matt Taylor.

Taylor was nearly unstoppable, pouring in a game-high 29 points to lead Jersey Icons. His scoring included nine two-point baskets and two three-pointers, giving the Icons the offensive production they needed in a tightly contested matchup.

Austin Williams added 12 points, while Jermel Howard contributed nine points, all coming from beyond the arc.

Court Kings refused to go away.

James Johnson led the team with 19 points, while Anthony Jackson added 15 and Tony Johnson chipped in 14. The trio kept Court Kings within striking distance throughout the contest.

Jackson connected on a second-half three-pointer as Court Kings continued to battle, but Jersey Icons ultimately did enough to protect their lead and secure the two-point victory.

With the win, Jersey Icons improved to 2–0, while Court Kings dropped to 0–2 despite another competitive effort.

The takeaway: Jersey Icons are finding different ways to win. After Jermel Howard's six-three-pointer performance in Week 1, Matt Taylor stepped up with 29 points in Week 2. Having multiple players capable of taking over a game makes the Icons a dangerous team.

Primetime Bounces Back with 58–48 Victory Over Clutch City

Final Score: Primetime 58 | Clutch City 48

After falling just three points short in their opening-night matchup against Heat Check, Primetime returned to the court determined to get its first win.

This time, they got the job done.

Kevin Brown led Primetime with 16 points, providing timely offense as his team secured a 58–48 victory over Clutch City.

Primetime also received valuable contributions from Ethan Williams, who finished with nine points and eight rebounds, and Byron Byrd, who added eight points and six rebounds.

James Floyd connected on a second-half three-pointer, while Tariq Abdul-Latif made his presence felt defensively, recording four steals and disrupting Clutch City's offensive rhythm.

Clutch City was led by Glenn Allen, who matched Brown with 16 points. Yoav Malka added 12 points, helping keep Clutch City within reach with outside shooting.

Despite those efforts, Primetime maintained control and finished with a 10-point victory.

The win moved Primetime to 1–1 on the season, while Clutch City fell to 0–2.

The takeaway: Primetime showed it can win without relying solely on a high-scoring shootout. Balanced contributions and disruptive defense helped the team bounce back. Clutch City will need to find more consistent scoring as it looks for its first victory.

Bryan Campbell Dominates as Heat Check Hands TNR Its First Loss, 65–56

Final Score: Heat Check 65 | TNR 56

Two undefeated teams entered the final matchup of Week 2, but only one would leave with its perfect record intact.

Heat Check made sure it was them.

Bryan Campbell delivered one of the most impressive individual performances of the young season, finishing with 28 points, 15 rebounds, five three-pointers and two steals to lead Heat Check past TNR, 65–56.

Campbell was a force on both ends of the floor, controlling the glass while providing consistent offense from inside and beyond the arc.

Clarence Josiah added 15 points, while Onur Kara contributed 10, giving Heat Check additional scoring support.

TNR, coming off a convincing 19-point victory in Week 1, struggled to match Heat Check's offensive production.

Michael Abdul-Qawi led TNR with 12 points, while Deon Woods connected on three three-pointers to finish with nine.

Heat Check maintained its advantage through the second half, securing a nine-point victory and improving to 2–0.

TNR dropped to 1–1 after suffering its first loss of the season.

The takeaway: Heat Check is making an early statement as a championship contender. Campbell has been dominant through two games, averaging a league-leading 27.5 points per game. With Josiah providing consistent support, Heat Check looks like one of the teams to beat.
